I'am putting back in my out drive omc cobra out drive. Exhaust bellows are bad and i would rather not put a new one in. Wondered if it would hurt anything to leave it off.

Your ears!

Describe "bad". I had a customer bring in a MerCruiser and he wanted me to install the exhaust bellows he bought. It was baked! So was just about every other exhaust part in the system, and the water pump was pretty thoroughly melted too.

Even if it's rot, it's not the only bellows in the system that's old enough to have rotted.

Bad exhaust bellows is usually a symptom, not the problem.

Or explain why you think its bad. Some of the Cobra bellows have cuts or holes along the lower side for exhaust relief.
Without the exhaust bellows the engine will be really loud when underway..
Willy is dead on about the rotted part too..

Thank you for your reply. My exhaust bellows are not rotted they just had a bad tear at on end and when taking it off to replace u-joint boot i riped it all the way through. I don't mind if it is louder i just didn't want to mess anything up. If the boat will run ok with out bellows i like the louder boat sound.

You should replace the exhaust bellows. Leaving it off will change the back pressure and allow exhaust gases to go where it is not designed.

I feel the exhaust bellows is more aesthetics than anything else. Mine has holes on the bottom and it has some cracks in it. the only thing I can see is the exhaust is louder because it doesnt travel all the way through the outdrive to finally come out at the prop. wveb i flush it the exhaust and water come out of the holes that were made in the bellows anyway so I dont think it makes a damn bit of difference
