I have a 1996 Johnson Fast Strike (175). I've just noticed gas leaking from the engine. I removed the cover and noticed it coming from the middle carb on the right side, everytime i would squeeze the ball or let it run it would just flow out the side. I noticed on all the other carbs that there is what looks like a small brass ball in the side of the others. It is coming out where that brass piece should be. Help me out, please. Thanks

Common problem. The brass plug fell out. Take The carb off and clean the bowl real good and you can fill that hole with JB weld. That hole does nothing. Its from the casting process when they made the bowl.

I've never taken one off before. Is there anything that I have to watch out for when taking it off. Or is it as simple as bolt off/on. What is the best thing to clean the bowl with? Thanks

Yes, bolts off, bolts on. Just have to be sure the o-ring seal stays put when re-installing the carb. You coud try just draining the carb bowl in place and spraying brake cleaner into the hole and let it drain back out several times. Brake cleaner usually cleans up oil pretty good.

Walker, thanks a lot, it worked out well. That wasn't to hard at all, I went ahead a cleaned them all. Now it runs a lot better (on land), I'll try it in the morning. Again, Thanks a lot.

I tried my boat out on the water and it ran fine for a while, and then acted as if it didn?t want to keep running. It would run strong when you start it, but would soon sputter until it cut off, ow it will not keep running. I put everything back in the order I took it off. What could this be?
