I have a 1978 Chrysler 55 HP outboard. Is it okay to add fuel injector/carb cleaner to the 50:1 fuel mix; I have a bottle of carb cleaner that is used in a car and I thought I'd ask before I use it on my outboard. How much should I mix in my 6 gallon tank, if any? thanks...

Re: Carb cleaner

Avoid additives. Many mess with the oil's ability to lubricate.

Re: Carb cleaner

Additive type carb cleaners are usually a waste of money. The best way is to buy a carb kit and take it apart and clean it with carb cleaner, a thin piece of wire and compressed air. Key area for the carb is the main jet and the idle area. This would be where the mixture screw is and removal of the welsh plug to clean the three tiny holes for the idle. The carb kit should have instructions on how to reset the float both inverted and upright.
