It's your motor. You can do anything you want. It's up to you if you want to do something stupid or smart. The Smart thing would be to fix the problem. Or better yet, figure out if you actually have a problem or you just percieve a problem before doing anything rash. What makes you think you're using too much oil?

To check oil usage, put a piece of masking tape on the side of the oil tank and place a mark at the oil level. Run about 12 gallons of fuel through the engine and then check oil level. Add oil, noting the amount being added until the level is again up to the line. If you added a quart oil consumption is normal. If its more than that by a small amount, no big deal. If it's less than that, fix it. 50:1 is a pint in 6 gallons of fuel. Too little oil is not a good thing.

Automatic oilers are variable rate. I notice that if I putter around, which is defined as water skiing, giving rides, etc, I don't use much oil. When I'm fishing, however (flat out whenever it's running, and no nagging copilot) I use much more.

Motor's 20 years old, plugs are oily, runs like a scalded dog.
