Ha! What do you suppose the odds are that there is a single one of those still in running condition?

I'd bet everything on NONE still running. Looks like they, had screw clamps for mounting on the transom, rather than bolts, like it's a 5hp or something.

Last one I saw was back in the mid 90's, so it had been around for at least 20 years. Not bad for a saltwater engine and in it's time it did well in its racing class.

Cricket, My Merc '77 1500 has screw clamps to attach to the transom. It called for six transom bolts as well.

I think it looks cool with those cowl mounted exhausts. But I always liked the look of the Chrysler cowling anyway. That 135HP/94 Cu in may have been the HP/Displacement leader in 1969. I am not sure when the Merc 1500 came out, but possibly not until 1971 or so.

I kind of like those exahusts coming out like that too, must have been loud, but I bet it sounded pretty good too.

I have never seen the screw clamps on anything that big, then again that's before I was born, so I'm sure there are plenty of things I never saw.

Really quite an achievement for it's time. The HP to weight to cubic inch was great. I imagine there are still a few running but only in someones collection.

Anybody happen to notice the price that was handwritten on that? I wonder if that's what it really sold for? :D

There are a few out there, but they were never a service motor, so they weren't all that common even when they were being made. They were successful and held their own against the Mercs and Johnrudes at the time. Like any made-for-racing item, those that are still around are either undiscovered in a dusty shed somewhere or in someone's collection. I have not seen one running, but know of a couple out there...

Many of the powerhead parts are bone stock - same as other 4-cylinder Chizzlers of the time.

I don't remember the price on that frame, we never had anyone who bought one from us. But, there were two at least two in the Tampa area. That hand written price was probably pretty close to what they were selling for. In 77 we were buying either 120 or 130 Chryslers for $1600.00 each. I also remember this as being released as a 140 or even a 150 with the stacks, but I could be wrong on that.

A friend in Maine has an 85 Chrysler on a Chrysler side console. I'm not saying it runs great, but it still runs. Every summer.

Go over to Chrysler Crew and look at the photo album. There is a guy there with one modified with Mercury ignition. Looks radical! If I remember correctly, the engine had a 2.80 bore and 3.3125 stroke. The 140 had 2.86 stroke and 3.375 bore for 104 cu in. Both had twin fuel pumps though --Chrysler Frank--
