I just bought a Johnson Super Sea King 40 "super quiet" "electramatic". This is an enourmous engine about twice the wieght and size of my gale seaking 40.
The identification plug on the engine block says "J251503 2"
Can anyone give me any information on this engine?
year? 4/2 stroke? etc.
Thanks

J 25 sounds like the start of a 25HP model number??

Re: identification help needed

Look for a model number like RD-twenty something or RDS-twenty something on the same plug or on the transom bracket to confirm year model. The number you provided is a block serial number I believe.

Re: identification help needed

Is it a twin or V-4 cylinder engine? The 40hp motors are twins and the 75hp are V-4. That should be Super Sea Horse Electromatic. The 40hp Electromatics are model RK-xx, the xx part indicating the year. The number you gave is the serial number. Look between the stern brackets above/behind the tilt lock lever for the model number plate.

it is a twin. I looked for the plate yesterday but couldn't find it. I'll look more carefully again today.
