I have a 1985, 85hp Force. It ran fine the last couple of times I have taken it out. The last time it started and idled good but when I dropped the hammer it ran for about 5 seconds at full power then acted like it was out of gas but didnt die. The primer bulb was compressed in so I know it wasnt getting any gas. Fuel pump maybe. Can anyone give me some help on this matter ?

The primer bulb was compressed in so I know it wasnt getting any gas.

If the bulb was flat, then your fuel tank is not vented. and the fuel pump is trying to suck any fuel it can get into the engine and thus flattening the bulb.

Check the vents on your fuel tank.

Or, if your fuel tank is vented and you have a quick connect fitting on it, check that fitting. The male fitting is quite easy to clog. If the primer bulb is going flat, the fuel pump is sucking it flat and the problem is before the bulb.

Re: fuel problems

If it is going flat it does sound like the Vent or something on the Fuel Tank.

Also, you might Try running the boat and have someone sit back there and pump the Primer bulb while it runs out of gas, if it picks back up and starts running again, then it is the Fuel Pump. The diaphrams are easy to replace and only about $10 on the Iboats store.
