Stability of a 1989 Wellcraft 170 Classic?

Hello,
I have just recently purchased a 1989 Wellcraft 170 Classic. The boat is in good shape and has the MerCruser 3.0 i/O.

I have only had it a few days, but have been concerned with how unstable the boat feels in the water. With only my wife and myself in the boat it lists to the left fairly severely. We had a small tolling motor installed up front with the battery mounted in the left front storage compartment. I have already adjusted the small fin located above the prop and this helped some with the steering pulling to one side, but even after playing with the trim levels it still lists slightly to the left even with both of us sitting on the right side of the boat.

This does not seem normal. The boat is about 1950 lbs and seems large enough to deal with a slight unballance weight. Does anyone have any information or advice? Any help would be wonderful.
Thanks.

Hello robertsn, I have an '88 180 classic and the ride on it is great. Not sure about your problem but if you go to the non engine related boating topics I'm sure someone would have some great advice. Either weight distibution or smart tabs.:D

I have the exact same boat, same year. It tracks very nicely and I can sit up on the seat and steer with my feat if I like. You may have the wrong size propeller. That is the first thing I would investigate. That will cause it to pull from too much torque. My boat is always out of balance to one side or another - you know passengers - but that only causees it to lean, not pull as you describe.
