So, are you just concerned about what's blowing out there, or is it actually getting hot at higher speeds?

Only a partial amount of the total water is discharged out that hole. Most of it goes out with the underwater exhaust. At higher speeds, the underwater exhaust is more or less scavenged, so the water just runs out down below instead of a lot coming out the upper blowhole.

If it was actually not circulating at high speeds it would overheat in a heartbeat.

That's perfectly normal behavior for that engine. Once you're under way, all the exhaust goes out the underwater outlet.

I have the exact same engine and mine acts just like yours, perfectly normal. mine has been running good now for a few years acting the same way. When you return the throtle back to idle it starts to spray again.

Thanks for all the replies fairly new to older outboards Just had one more question on were the lower exhaust port is the prop is a sealed shaft with the pickup screen and tube just above the prop no bigger holes were it look like exhaust would come out just small holes thanks

The snout sticking down aft of the propeller is the exhaust outlet. The water intake screen is on the leading edge of it, exhaust comes out the big hole to the rear.
