I have a 2005 Merc. two stroke 90hp mounted on a 24ft. Bentley pontoon boat that I just purchased from original owner. Motor had not been serviced and the was losing power at higher rpm's. Turned out to be a "gunked up" fuel system. New fuel filter and cleaning of the fuel system has fixed this and it will now wide open without problem.

As the technician was doing a final test run, he noticed that the engine would lose power (rpm's) and die during a hard left turn, but run great when turning right or straight. I had never noticed this before, probably because I couldn't get the engine to run that well due to the previous fuel problem.
The technician called Mercury but is still having a hard time figuring this out. He re-adjusted the carbs (and floaters in the carbs) to increase the fuel coming in, thinking that the centrifigal (sp?) force of the hard left turn could be pushing all the fuel to the right inside the carbs, causing the engine to stall. We're waiting to see if this helps.

Has anyone experienced this "left turn problem" before? Any ideas?
Thanks so much!

Let's divide and conquer. Go out and do it. When it starts acting up get someone to check the squeeze bulb. Firm bulb means engine starvation....look in the engine. A soggy/collapsed bulb is fuel tank/lines related. Pumping up the bulb would restore performance if the latter is the problem.

I can see where a hard turn, especially on a low gas level fuel tank or other abnormality could cause the fuel inlet to come away from the fuel.

Not really any mechanism in the engine for that kind of a problem. If it were carb bowl problems, you'd get it both ways as the pickup is in the center.

Make sure the fuel line isn't getting pinched on the motor or transom on those hard left turns. Check your routing of hoses.
