I have purchased a Evinrude Fastwin with the serial number: 15036B B2270.

The owner told me it was a 18HP engine. Could somebody from the serial number tell me about this engine?

What fuel does it run on and how much oil should it be in the engine?

Thanks for all help.

Re: Evinrude Fastwin

You need a model number for verification. Look on the transom clamp of the engine. The late 50's ran at around 32:1 and after that it is 50:1.

it's a 1962 15 hp. 15035B in model #. fuel/oil ratio is 24/1. points gapped at .020, plug 6C gapped at .030 for fast running, if trolling increase to .040. optimum RPM 4500. all tune up parts are available at laingsoutboards.com

tdaddy, thanks for the assist. I didn't even check to see if it was in fact a model number. I know my trusty '58 35 was supposed to run at 24:1 but did a lot better at 32:1. Guess it is the better oils that we have now.

Evinrude didn't make a 15-horse in '62. 15036 is a '62 18-horse. Plug should be Champion J4C gapped at .030, fuel mix is 87 octane gas mixed 24:1 with TC-W3 outboard oil.

Kurt is in Norway. Seems like I heard somewhere that they rate gasoline octane differently in Europe?

Didn't know he was in Norway, but you're quite right. In the US we use (R+M)/2 but in Norway I suppose they use RON which would be numerically higher for the same product.

Didn't know he was in Norway because I didn't read thoroughly, but you're quite right. In the US we use (R+M)/2 but in Norway I suppose they use RON which would be numerically higher for the same product.

Re: Evinrude Fastwin

sorry guys, typo. fireman, it may run better on 32:1 but you are jeopardizing the bearings. the oil may be better, but still rated TCW-3.
