Identify my outdrive...

I jsut got this boat as a project. It is a 1969 Wellcraft with a 4,3 and an OMC outdrive. I just replaced the transom seal, and I want to upgrade my steering from cables and pulleys to a Teleflex system.

I need to identify the outdrive so I can get the necessary hardware to convert the steering. If anyone knows what parts I need it will help more as I am new to boating.

TIA

That is not a 4.3, in case someone told you that was a GM engine. That is a smallblock Ford, likely a 302. Definitely an early OMC electric shift stringer drive.

UMMMMMMMMMMMMMM not sure exactly what it is....

BUT it is not a FORD V-8.

I don't think it is a FORD anything.

I think it is a GM V-6, likely a Buick. 231.

Yer right, it's not a Ford. Thought I saw four plug wires going over the valve cover. Too many Bud Lights.

It IS a GM engine. Of course all the numbers are at work... Ill post them tomorrow.

The engine is a 4.3 V6 with a 2BBL Rochester Carb. All parts are labeled GM, and I think it may possibly be a 231... I need to get the casting numbers from the block. DOes the 231 have the same firing order as the 4.3? I wonder...

The outdrive is labeled " Outboard Marine"

All tags are painted over or missing. Once I find out What it is I need to track down an owners manual.

I do have the electric shift.
