NEED SOME HELP,,, I HAVE JUST FINISHED RE-FITTING A MICROPLUS 502 CRUISER. THE ONLY THING IS THE 50hp BROWN BAND MERCURY (1979)
WONT RUN. IT STARTS AND IDLES AND WILL REV A LITTLE BUT THEN CUTS OUT WHEN THROTLE PUSHED.
1/ I HAVE STRIPPED CARB'S AND CLEANED THEM.
2/ REPLACED ALL FUEL HOSES BOTH EXTERNALLY AND INTERNALLY.
3/ REPLACED PLUGS.
4/ BASICALLY STRIPPED ENGINE AND CLEANED EVERYTHING.
THE LAST THING I HAVE YET TO TRY IS THE ELECTRICS, BUT I DONT REALLY WANT TO GO THERE.

CAN ANYONE HELP

Re: Mercury 1979 Idles Then Cuts Out,

Tommy, You have the classic symptom that the carb idle mixture is set too lean. When you cleaned the carbs you likely adjusted the idle mixture screws to make the motor run smooth. You need to open them up 1/8 of a turn alternately (start at the top carb) and try to accelerate. Eventually you should find a setting that allows a reasonable idle and good acceleration.
