I have a 1987 90 hp with a hole in the piston. I have found a 1988 115 hp. the 90 is an inline 3 cylinder and the 115 is a v-4. Does anyone know if this is an easy swap? Will the controls be the same? The 90 has an integral oil tank. Does the 115 also have one or is it external?

Should not be a difficult swap. You will need the external oil tank and wiring harnesses for the oil injection, Conrols and main harness should hook right up.

Thanks. The swap went perfectly smooth. It took less than three hours and we are back in the water.

I got a 1988 90hp. What caused the failure?

Re: yamaha 90 to 115 swap

I have not determined the real cause... The problem was that the motor decided to blow a hole in the side of top piston behind the rings. We pulled off the exhaust plate because of overheat and low water pressure problems. The top piston was scorched and had a hole the diameter of a pencil in the side. Now I have a 90 HP yard ornament...
