Hello,

Great site!!! I recently just bought a 1971 17' Starcraft with a 1977 70hp Evinrude. My question is, does this motor come with a hot alarm or buzzer? I ask this because I hate the fact that I cant see a pee-stream since it is submerged under the waterline. Would hate to burn up a great running motor.

Any info would be great!

Thanks
Brad

Hi Brad. Welcome to iboats. :)

There is an overheat sensor on the cylinder head. It has a single wire and the conector is under a black sleeve. Slide that sleeve to expose the connector and touch the connector to the head with the key on (motor not running), If you hear a buzz, you have your answer.

Thanks allot guys! I appreciate the help! I got one more question which relates to what were talking about here:

When replacing cooling system parts is it sufficient to only replace the impeller or should one buy the whole kit? The guy I bought this from had his setup for over 10 years and never installed a new water pump!

So I'm thinking I should install a new one....

Do it up!!! Might as well get a thermostat too if not included in the kit... would'nt hurt to change lower unit oil too!!! Cheap insurance...

do the water pump kit, seeing it hasn't been done in 10 years. comes with impeller, housing, bottom plate. gaskets, and don't miss the o-ring on the drive shaft, and grease the splines the grease and o-ring keep the spines from rusting together. also read this. http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=158086
