I have a 1984 Mercury 80 hp 4 cyl that was given to me. When I recieved it some of the parts were stripped off of the motor. I have a mercury manual, however the picture is not clear and I cannot tell for sure where the rectifier is to be mounted, I have the general location but it does not look like it would mount correctly. I would appreciate a good description or picture. Thanks in advance for any help!

Look up your serial number at mercurypartsexpress.com. You can enlarge the parts diagrams, which usually show lines for assembly. Right click on the drawing and past it into your word processor, and print it out for reference.

hope it helps

Re: Rectifier mounting location

Tried the site but my motor must be older than I was told. I only have 7 numbers in my model number and the web site does not go back that far. Thanks for the suggestion anyway!

It doesn't really matter where you mount the rectifier. On my inline six, I mount the rectifier on the front cowl support that covers the carb intake, right below the switchbox.

The important thing is that the negative DC lead of the rectifier must be grounded.

Sorry that it took me so long to reply, but I had computer issues and could not get online. The serial number for my motor is 5005655 and there is no letters before or after the numbers.
