Hi All,

To make a long story short, this motor was given to us to sell from a guy who's father bought it, used it a few times, and then it sat in the garage for years.
Knowing we had a lake house, he asked us to take it up there to see if anyone was interested.
Every time I ask about a price, he just shrugs and says that whatever we get for it is fine with him.
I can not get over the condition of this thing, so I thought I would share a few photo's. Year is a 73. Honestly, I dont think it has ever seen water from the looks of it... Brand new inside and out.
Anyone guess a worth on it?

First, you need to get it running, if you haven't already done so. It must be run in water. A trash can or barrel will do.

Running perfectly, it would sell for between $500-700 in the Twin Cities in Minnesota. Not running, about half that.

You don't say where you are located, but that 9.8 hp Merc is a popular motor just about everywhere, despite its age, but it has to be in perfect running order to get the maximum bucks.

If there's no tank with it, find one.

Hi CaTransplant,

Yeah, it came with a gas can as well. We are located in Chicago, but the lake house is near Hayward, Wisconsin. We are planning on taking it up there next week, hook it up to the small boat, and see if we can get it running.
I was thinking about buying it as a kicker for our bass boat, but if 5-700 is what it's worth, I probably wont bother, as I dont want/need a kicker that bad.
If it was 2-300, I would consider it... It sure would look nice sitting next to the big Merc though :)
Even though the owner has no idea what it's worth, I want to get him a fair price, or at least, let him know what it's worth. I appreciate your input!

actually right now it is worth 2-300, 99% chance it's going to have to have a carb rebuild, and 100% a water pump rebuild. then $500.

Right now it is an unknown so consequently worth less. As you successfully work on the carb, water pump etc it's value will increase.

I'd replace the impeller check the plugs for spark and then try to fire it up. You might get lucky.
