I was following the tips from another post on setting the timing on my 125 and I noticed the Timing Link is cracked. I am hoping that is the correct name for it. Its the plastic part with the threaded rod for the timing advance. The section next to the lock nut is split. It seems to be holding ok but you know sooner or later that is gonna break.

Where can I get a replacement link? I could not seem to find a part # for that linkage anywhere.

Thanks

Mine broke a couple years ago, just make one.

I went to the hardware store and got a square key (like for a pully shaft keyway) that was the same thickness, drill the holes with a drill press, tap the one, drill the one a bit bigger on top for the recessed screw head, then cut it to length.

Re: Timing Link rod on 85 Force 125

Anyone want to make me up one?

We have just recently moved from PA to NC and back in PA at my Dad's shop I had a mill, drill press, etc and it would be a piece of cake. Here I have nothing but a drill and vice grips. I think that would be a little difficult. :)

I would be glad to pay you for it.

That would be very much appreciated.

I just put some epoxy on it and it made it through today's trip anyway.

Hey Baxtr, The same thing just happened to me! Would you mind making another one for me? and by the way, I've just been searching here on how to set the timing right, do I just bring it to the full throttle stop, then adjust the timing assembly till it goes all the way advanced, and just touches the stop also, for synchronization??? I just finished crazy gluing mine also, before I found this thread (I guess thats not gonna last), please help, I just got this boat, and on the my maiden voyage it broke down because of this. Thanks Mike

Does anyone have this piece? Or can you direct me as to where I can get one? I don't own a drill press.

ground all your plugs, disconnect the neutral switch (microswitch under the throttle tower) go to WOT, connect timing light to cylinder #1 (top cylinder) have someone turn the key so the starter spins the motor and check the timing, set to 2 degrees less and it should be right on when it is actually running.

I can make another, you can get them from mercruiser.com but shipping cost could buy you 5 of them :)

up north for a while though, won't be able to get to it right away
