clicking sound in real of 5,7 motor

i just fixed my idle and the shop left my boat a real mess. the good news one by one its getting fixed the right way.
you can see the shaft spinning behind the bell housing. i have no feeling when i hold my hand on the housing..does the drive shalf turn in netural?? can it be ujoints. old?? in gear or reverse same noise. not steady few times a minute..

Anytime the enigine is turning, that shaft is turning.
Pull drive, inspect u joints.
I'll bet they are toast.
A great way to kill them is to run the engine in trailer up.

While the drive is off, turn the gimble bearing and check for any roughness, inspect the bellows for cracks, and inspect the shift cable bellows for cracks.

Look into bellows through gimble and check coupler for pointy teeth.

Check the engine for alignment also....you need a tool to do so.

Hint: To pull the drive, shift into FORWARD

I had a similar problem........turned out to be the exhaust flappers.

Ayuh,............. So do I..........

Running without Water Flow smoked the rubber off them,+ the SSteel parts are Clattering...........

thanks bondo .motor is good now just more issues to fix...one at a time. its guys like you don and the rest who help me get threw this really bad screw up
