Ok I know I saw somewhere in this forum someone who had the same problem I do, but I have looked at so many posts I can not seem to find it again, even after using the "search" I can still not find it or see it. OK so here is "my" situation, When I first got it running, it would not keep a slow/low idol, so with a bit of trouble shooting I figured it was sucking air and causing it to stall, changed out the "o-ring" and problem solved..... so with the motor in a 55 Gal drum (cut down to about 35 gal) filled with water, it will run at idol for 5, 10, 15 minutes with out a problem, so today we take it out to the lake to do a little fishing. Get the bout into the water, start the motor, works in reverse, works in forward, open her up, it runs great for about 2 minutes, then dies! wait a minute, starts up, runs for another min or so, then dies again! will not stay running while in gear, put it in Idol again , and it keeps going like an Energiser bunny. Please help any sugestions:confused:

Sure sounds like a fuel supply problem.Possible fuel pump failure.See if squeezing the primer bulb helps.Be sure the tank vent is open and clear.Be sure all hoses connections and connectors are good.If the motor has sat a lot you may have to go through the fuel system from tank to carb with special attention to cleaning. When cleaning the carb be sure all passages and jets are clean and prove it.It seems about 50% of the time folks go through the motions and have to go back again usually with success.

It has sat for a bit, and the bulb does get a little soft, but didn't seem to help at all, the bulb was rock hard and it still died. Any idea where I could find a good book to help me with the motor? I do have a bit of common sense and I pick up on things fairly easy, but somethings seem Greek to me.

Re: Help with `85 15HP Sea King

Hi again all,

OK I just ordered a FORCE OUTBOARD REPAIR MANUAL 1984-1999, it should be here in a few days, where would be the "Best" place to start? Should I start with the tank side and work my way up through the fuel pump then to the Carb, or should I start from the carb, then the fuel pump and then to the tank? Also should I add an "in-line" fuel filter to my fuel line or should the filter in the fuel pump be plenty good?

It sure sounds like a fuel supply problem.
If you suspect it may be fouled from sitting around start at the tank with careful attention to cleaning.Be sure all connectors and connections are sound. If the system is dirty and you do the pump or carb they may just get fouled again. If your sure things are sound and clean to the pump then
you could run the motor without messing up the pump and carb.If it still refuses to opertate then do every thing from pump to carb. With special attention to cleaning all passages and jets.Prove they are clear.
