Hi my room mate just aquired a 1974 mercury thunderbolt 7.5hp and we replaced the water impellar and put the lower unit back on but was hard to shift into foward and we pulled the lower unit off and tried to reallign the gear shaft with the gear selector in reverse and both were in the reverse position and now it wont even shift out of reverse any solutions btw serial number for the motor is 3805222 and the lower unit part number or serial number is 16304916 i noticed that the selector handle had two forward positions and one reverse and the lower unit had one forward and one reverse just wondering if lower unit is missmatched plz help want to be able to be on the water 7/3/07
