Getting ready to mount a 2003 150 Evinrude. I noticed that the oil tank has 2 lines coming out of it. All the VRO's I have hooked up only have one. Why the difference.

I think one line is a return line.

I might be wrong,if so someone will correct me.

Re: 2003 Ficht VRO

A FICHT engine does not have a "VRO". It uses a multi-line oil injector that is electrically operated by the engine's EMM (computer).

The smaller 1/4 ID line is the oil in hose, and the 5/16" ID line is the return. You need the return oil fitting on the oil tank, drilled and screwed into place.

There is a special oil bleeding sequence that is required before and during engine startup. You should also have a laptop and the diagnostic software to set up and check out the engine.

Since you are not familiar with this type of motor, find a qualified tech or get the factory service and the rigging manual so you can understand the systems and hook things up correctly.

They are great motors but can get very expensive if you mess something up.

Re: 2003 Ficht VRO

Thanks to everyone. Seahorse, I have the software ordered, I'm still looking for a manual. I won't do anything unless I'm 100% sure on this motor. I've heard nothing but good on these motors. This particular motor has 394 hours and the codes that came up were throttle sensor position and water in the fuel. Can't wait to get this motor running. Thanks again to all.

Re: 2003 Ficht VRO

It fired right up today. The 1st thing I noticed is how much quiter it is than my 1998 150. The check engine light stayed on while I ran Deep Creep thru it. I had the front cover off which made unhooking a sensor necessary. I think I have to use the software to clear out codes. When I hooked up the software a couple of weeks ago, I had a code for water in the fuel. I didn't clear out anything then, but will soon. I think I'm really going to like this engine. They have a great reputation.

They have a great reputation.

They do?
This is from wikipedia:

In the early 1990s, Ficht GmbH of Kirchseeon, Germany developed a high-pressure direct injector for use with two stroke engines. This injector was unique in that it did not require a high pressure pump but was still capable of generating enough pressure to inject into a closed combustion chamber. Outboard Marine Corporation (OMC) licensed the technology in 1995 and introduced it on a production outboard engine in 1996.[13][14] OMC purchased a controlling interest in Ficht in 1998.[15] Beset by extensive warranty claims for its Ficht outboards, OMC declared bankruptcy in December of 2000 and the engine manufacturing portion and brands (Evinrude Outboard Motors and Johnson Outboards), including the Ficht technology, were purchased by Bombardier in 2001.[16], [17]

Evinrude introduced the E-Tech system, an improvement to the Ficht fuel injection, in 2003, based on U.S. patent 6,398,511. In 2004, Evinrude received the EPA Clean Air Excellence Award for their outboards utilizing the E-Tech system.[18

You don't have to unhook the sensor wire, just give the whole sensor assembly 1/4 turn and it comes out of the airbox easily.

Thanks Seahorse, I hooked up the sensor and fired it up, the light went away. It's amazing how some people have to butt in on a thread that is seeking advice and proceed to show their ignorance.
