hi- i'm relativley new to boating...i got a free boat on the begining of the season...well no such animal...after dumping at least 500 into it my wife says why are we waisting our money lets get a new boat (yes shes great!) we are looking at a 1802 trophy walk around...i really like the idea of a warrenty and piece of mind...but the finacially responsible part of me says wait till winter and i can probly get a lightly used one cheaper...theres a 03 for about 16 grand no warrenty...then theres the 2006 leftover thats about 26grand with a full warrenty on hull(10yrs) and motor 3yrs, i think ,its a mercury 125 ob...ant body got any suggestions...i know i should not rush into it but i'd like to get out on the water by at least august.

No doubt even a lightly used one should save you a ton of money. Let someone else take the depreciation hit.

I am always being told you can do alot of work for what you save on buying a used boat. I am going through the same thing that you are right now on buying new or wait and buy a used one. My biggest problem in Indiana is there is about a 4 month season at best and I can only boat or work on the boat on weekends and it seems this year is doing alot more work than boating. I know its all part of boating but it just seems that its little stupid stuff every weekend. The more I type the better a warr. is sounding to me.I hate spending the money but the whole family enjoys this and so far is still cheaper than snowmobiles.

What kind of shape is your "free" boat in? I got a free boat a few months ago. It had been sitting unused for years. I put about $700 into the motor (tune up, seals, carb kit, etc...), and recently had to replace the ignition switch, but am way ahead of what the boat would cost if I had to buy it. Of course, the hull and everything else is in excellent shape as it sat covered in a carport. But, if you go the finances and wife's OK then go ahead with a new one.

dog nails on deck not problem, on upolstery made a problem. on the 2006 get him down to 20,000 atleast. it's already almost 2 years old, let the dealer take part of the depreciation.
