Boat: 1993 Bomber 175 Pro Series
Motor: 1993 Mercury 115
WOT: 4600

Took a week vacation camping at the lake in June. We were camping right on the water so the boat was going to get plenty of use, but on the second day it died and has not started since. Day 1 ran the boat about 10 miles and it ran great at about 50 mph. Day 2 we pulled a tube and rode about another 10 miles.. Still running great. Then backing away from beach I took the boat from reverse to neutral and the engine died. No Smoke, no abnormal noise, no cutting out, just stalled. The engine has always ran fine. We have replaced the water pump every few years and no problems. Some have scared me to death by saying the power pack went out, I don't have alot of money to sink into the motor at this point. Any ideas what the problem could be? I'm new to this board, so if I left out anything let me know.. all your help is greatly appreciated.

Well, make sure the emergency kill switch isn't tripped. That's the first thing I check. It's easy for it to be partially tripped. It has to be completely engaged or it kills the engine. Take the tether off completely and push the switch back in. It should snap into place. If it's mushy, replace it.

If that doesn't help, remove the black/yellow wire from the switchbox (power pack). That's the kill wire. If you have spark then, it's a problem in the wiring or switches. If not, it's either the switchbox or stator. Both have about equal failure rates. The switchbox would be the lesser cost. Have the motor diagnosed before buying either. Don't touch that lead of the switchbox if the motor starts. It packs a whallop! Choke it to death to kill it if it starts.

Re: 1993 Mer 115 just died..

I had every intention of fixing the boat today. I changed the plugs, checked the carbs, and then checked the red/yellow wire at the switch box. Nothing seemed to work.. it still won't start.. I know gas is getting to the carbs, and disconnecting the kill switch did not help any. Any other suggestions? I don't have a reliable trusted boat mechanic anymore as my former one has moved out of the area, so I want to try and remedy this my self. Thanks for all your help!
