65 4ohp johnson no start

I'm new to working on boats I mainly work on cars I have a 40 hp johnson
that the boat went under water but the engine never went under but now
it wont start i"ve replaced the plugs and the ignition switch and it is getting gas but just wont start it has spark i check it by removing the plugs and grounding them on the motor and the sparked any help would be great

Other than checking the inline fuse near the starter you may want to read this over to help you. GL

if the inline fuse was blown the start would not turn it over. check compression, spark tester, spark should just 1/2 inch. what do the plugs look like? light brown &dry, black & dry, black & wet, oily. post your compression numbers and spark finding along with the rest. has this motor been asleep for a while and coming back to life? also read this:

I enlarged spark plug gap to .040 and it started thanks for the help

now do a water pump kit, before you ruin what you've accomplished.
