Today Elmer Fudge passed on, after winning a long battle with cancer he suffered a stroke last night and had to be euthanized at 9:31 am.
I shall miss him dearly. :(

Sorry to hear about your companion.
Scared me at first when I seen the thread since we have a member, Elmer Fudge.

Boot,
They truely become our family. But quickly, go to the shelter and rescue a new firend. That's the best way to get over the loss, Bootle and Tom.. find a new companion.
I lost my little buddy in 98, and kept saying "that's it!! I'll not have my heart ripped away with such an empty loss again... then my wife brought home this little runt of a thing. Did not ASK me, did not warn me, and I swore that was "the stupidest animal I ever saw". And because it came from a very abvusive owner, with equallly sadistic kids, it hid from me. After a month or so, she began to trust me more and more And that sense of loss was then gone -- we became inseprable, and I found out how extremely bright she is. Her "stupidity" was a form of protection from when she was lured-out with a treat -- just soshe could be beaten. . I know they are only with us for a short time, but it seams as if their spirit just goes into the next one. I'm serious about that. We now have two (min pins), and they are our kids.
We are under no illusions tho. God only lets them stay a very short time. But he also gave them an "earthly soul" for lack of a better definition, that seams to reincarnate, unlike the soul he gave us.

I understand completely about feeling a huge loss at the passing of a dog. I hate to even use the word dog because they become such a huge part of our lives and losing them is so hard. I tell everyone they are my kids! So please know boot that you are in my thoughts and prayers through this tough time. I know it gets easier over the days and months, but it's still hard. i lost my best friend almost 4 years ago and I still miss her tremendously! God bless you with His abundant peace!

Though it defies words, a relationship with a dog or pet is often just as strong as with a human. I am deeply sorry for your loss.

I understand. I lost my 12 year old Border Collie last fall. Writing this almost brings tears to my eyes again. I know this has been posted before, but thought it might help.

RAINBOW BRIDGE

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When a pet dies that has been especially close to someone here, it goes to Rainbow Bridge.

There are meadows and lakes where our special friends run and play together in the sunshine. There is plenty of food and water, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

Animals who have been ill and old are restored to health and vigor, those who were hurt are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days gone by.

The animals are so happy and content they barely notice that they miss someone very special to them who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but a day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body begins to quiver. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have just been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.
The happy kisses rain upon your face, your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together........
