Hey guys,

As I mentioned in another post, I'm of the proud owner of my first motor boat. It's a '73 Larson 1550 Shark Open Bow. Can't wait to get her out on the lakes here in Vermont!

As for the motor, according to the model # 85693G, it's a 1976 85HP motor. It runs like a champ:D as the guy who sold me the boat showed me all the receipts for the recent work he just had completed on the motor....new starter, carb rebuild, points?, contacts?, fuels lines, plugs, wires, throttle cables, steering cables, the works!

Can you guys tell me a little bit more about it? Is it a good motor? Are parts readily available? Anything I should know?

TIA.

I've got a '77 those are good motors. The parts are generally interchangeable from '73-77. There was a model change in '78. You might want to consider adding a tell-tale, or a water pressure gauge to it. It's a fairly simple job. Otherwise, go boating and enjoy.

Thanks....that's good to hear. As for adding a tell-tale or water pressure gauge, I haven't got the foggiest? Don't know squat about outboards. Where can I get more info?

Thanks.

you engine is water cooled, and must have water source when ever you turn it over. or you will burn up the impeller, which you did not mention above. the tale tale is the pee stream you see on motors, it is an indicator that the impeller is pumping water. your engine does not have one. there are 2 exhaust relief ports, on the back of the engine that you should see some mist coming out of.
