Re: My Yardsale Boat

Saw that on the other cable. Is that part of the cable or part of the engine? Looking at new cables, I didnt see that part on the end of them.

Thanks...Bill

Re: My Yardsale Boat

i went back and studied the pictures of the interior. what the heck is that thing, an anchor winch, crab pot winch.

for front seats i would untilze the off set in the sides of the boat for support of a bench type situation. use 3/4 plywood and attach 1 X4, on the front and back edge to stiffen it. set it in and thru bolt it. down thru the ledge with stainless bolts and nuts. you can use rubber washers to seal the holes inside and out. then you can mount some type of swivel seat to the bench. remove the thing for the back and build another box for storage and seat. something we had when i was a kids was just a box, with cushion on top. we used it for life jackets, sometimes, and as a live well other. it was just a sealed plywood box. that was not fastened, and could be removed.

Re: My Yardsale Boat

Theres a thought as far as the seats go. Not sure if I like having to get over that hump each time though.

Yes...that is a crab pot and anchor winch in the back.

Bill Let me know how this went, I'm involved with the marine patrol in Oregon and could be able to give you advice if needed. Just FYI Oregon DMV has nothing to do with boats.

Gee...what could possibly go wrong dealing with a state agency???

Dad...or is it Mr. Boat???

I'll let you know. I have all the paperwork together now and will be talking to the marine board this afternoon to see who was the last registered owner. Then I have to send them a certified lost title form. It's really not that bad..so far. This will take about a month or so...which will give me time to get everything done I need to do.

Well...I changed the gear box oil. That was too easy. Oil was abit black, but not white and no metal shards which is a good thing.

Re: My Yardsale Boat

Fired her up tonight. Checked the spark, changed out the gas, and fired up on like the 4th pull. Ran real rough though..lots of smoke but lots of water coming out of the exaust. When the parts get here, going to rebuilt/clean the carb, new points, condenser and plugs. See what that does.

One thing though. Haveing never had a 2 stroke, not sure how it is supposed to run and how much smoke it should be blowing. It did leave quite abit of oil in the barrell of water though. Is that normal??

Thats good to know. I'm going to go ahead a pull the flywheel tonight and see what the coils look like. If they are cracked, I'll order up some new ones.

Re: My Yardsale Boat

Tasha,. Really neat job on the interior, fancy bench, and Gorgeous Red!.

I personaly had a tank like this but noticed it would leak. Nothing extreme but gas is gas, I went ahead and purchased new lines and a new tank, seemed a safer route to me. Ended up ditching the Johnson Evinrude (Went to the 58' Seaking 15Hp) for a MinnKota Trolling motor (07', 55Thrust). The Evinrude just smoked WAY too much for myself and left a trail in the water. Its a classic, and its original, but it had to go. If you're doing show I would certainly keep it and git'er fixed. Few people mentioned motors can be key.

Great find for 350!. Trailer and all!. I as well though am very curious as to what the wench thing is? Was this in Saltwater prior? I can only assume they used this to drop crab pots and fish off the side. I don't see any other conclusion... Other than a dredge,... And Im almost certain the dredge would pull that boat right on under!. Enjoy the ride to a restored boat!. Its a blast! I just wish I found this site two years ago!

Re: My Yardsale Boat

It is a winch for crab pots. Underneath it is a little electric engine with the battery cables and the anchor is hooking up to the other side. It's coming out..as is the rest of everthing in side it.

So have a few questions about the inside. Once I get it emptyied out, I'm going to remove all the screws going through the hull. What should I use to patch the holes??

Then I'm going to sand down the inside. Wire wheel on a drill to begin with?? Basicilly I've done alot of work on houses, but never anything with fiberglass. Need some advise here.

Thanks.....Bill

The manual showed up in the mail today. 4 days. Pretty quick turnaround. Now I have some light reading for tonight.
