Putting together a small boat with a 35 hp force. Wired controls to motor by matching colors. Have 3 left over wires and engine will not shut off with key. Choke works , trim works, key start works but will not shut off. Feeling stupid any help out there. By the way someone else had the motor before me and the wiring could be mispositioned. Wiring diagram would be nice. Thanks out there.

Re: Force engine issues

Sounds like your missing a ground. Mine wouldn't shut off with the key either when I forgot to bolt down one of the grounds on the ignition system... I had to pinch the fuel line and let the motor run out of gas to stop!

Hope this helps.

Re: Force engine issues

Not sure on your engine but if it has electronic ignition like the bigger ones: At switch: blue and white wires each go to a terminal marked "m". At engine terminal: Blue wire connecte with a jumper to ground, white wire connects to white on terminal. Operation is thus: when you turn off the key, the two "m" terminals connect. White now shorts to ground and shorts the box, shutting engine.

If you have points ignition: The color of the wires may be different but one wire from points goes to one "m" terminal and the other goes to the other "m" terminal--shorts points together and shuts down engine.
