Dont actually know if it is a carb issue. I like to think I actually can work on this motor but she has me stumped. I replaced everything this winter and had her runnin great for the past 2 months. She started to run rough at high speeds and now I can barley get her to run. As soon as I put the choke in she dies. I took the carb apart 2 days ago to see what was going on and I found the cork gasket at the base of the high speed needle nozzle had rotted away to blackness. I had just done the whole carb with new kit 2-3 months ago. Anyways the guy at the marina told me the 56 shouldnt have that gasket on anyways. So its off and still runnin like S#@t. I have tried adjusting the timing. Both plugs are running hot so I am assuming there giving a good spark. I think for some reason its flooding itself out. Even put new plugs in just in case I fouled one out. Dang Ii is drivin me nuts. I had her 1 pull starting like 2 weeks ago andnow she has given up on me. One thing that I noticed was when I put the new plugs in i checked them after starting it again and 1 plug was already black. I dont know if that is a clue to anything. Should I tryi putting a new cork gasket on ??? Any advice would be great.

The guy at the marina is right. It isn't supposed to have such a gasket. Easy to verify by looking at the parts list. Why doesn't it need one? Because the area is submerged in gas, so it can't draw air thru there. Any gas that is drawn through there is compensated for by the adjustable high speed jet.

Thanks for the reassurance on the gasket. Any ideas on what the problem could be. Is there anything past the carb on the way to the plugs that could be a problem. Just seems like its not getting the gas it needs. The coils condensers and points all looked very new when I set the point gaps. Thats the only thing left I think it could be. BUt like I said I see the spark when I take the plugs out and pull it and they both get hot when I run it in a tank. Thanks Dan

hey whats up new to iboats here,,,,the problem that i think ur having is a missfire issue,,,,i almost bet one of the coils are gone,,,,,take the flywheel off and the 3 bolts to ur coils and see if there is any black marks on them,,,this is caused by the old coils crack and then get moisture on them and jump spark thats what the black mark is from give it a try

You need to start a new thread with your question. Tagging a post onto a three year old thread will not get the results you need.

Begin by stating the model number or year and hp of your outboard. Describe exactly what the problem is and what you have already done to try to fix it. Then, people who know your outboard will try to help.
