I need help finding a lower unit for a Johnson 1997 9.9 (J10ELEUS).
and what other lower unit might fit this one? I was told by someone that I have to find the same model to fit, is that true?
The change in lower units was in 1993. Most models after that should fit if the driveshaft is the same. They used the same unit on the 4 strokes. The skeg on the newer units goes to the rear at about 45 degrees, rather than straight down from 1992 back.
Did you call the number there at tcoutboard.com? It is literally impossible that they do not have that lower unit in stock. They don't list their parts on their website. You have to call. I'm betting they have at least 50 of those. You won't like the price, but they'll have them.
