I just had two of these chargers and sent them both back as they would not work correctly (would never go to float even though all three batteries were fully charged and load tested good). Anyway, when the charge light is amber in color it is set for lead/acid batteries. If the charge light is red, it is set for the gel batteries. At least that is what my manual said. It does come from the factory set for lead acid charging.
