Replacing alternator...

Well, my alternator is toast (pretty sure anyway). We replaced the battery last weekend and took it out and it was reading 14volts on the gauge, normal.

Next time out, it was reading 9... then 8. Now we go to put the muffs on and start it to warm the oil before the oil change, and it was almost dead. Got a couple of cranks on it, then nothing.

Anyway, I well take the alternator off and have it tested, but assuming I am correct and its bad, how expensive are they to replace? Where can I get one? Does it just take a standard automotive one?

Any advise would be great, thanks!

Re: Replacing alternator...

You should be able to get it rebuilt for about $100. No they are not the same as automotive ones. They look similiar, but are different. For boats, you MUST get an alternator approved for marine applications.

Have a great day

Rob.

Or you could check at the same place where you got the Plug Wires........

They carry both New, or Rebuilt........ ;)

Is there a P/N anywhere? They didn't seem to be able to search for much of anything, I had to supply them the P/N for the wires!

Ayuh,........ Ask for part # MSP-7,..... It's the Marine Specialties Catalog....
They should have 1,+ if they have an Extra,....... They might Give it to you, or it's Listed at $6.95........

In It,..... it lists 18-5951 as a Reman,+ 18-5957 as a New Alt.......
