Hey everybody, I just last night bought a 1977 Marquis 18ft with the chevy 2.5L 4cyl mercruiser in it. It had been sitting for a few years so we started going through it. Got it running by pouring gas in the carb but realized the fuel pump was shot, so I am picking one up today along with oil, filter, plugs, points, fuel filter, anything else I should think about checking into on these motors. I am told the Iron Duke is pretty reliable.

But anyway. We lowered the trim to put the muffs on and run it last night, and then when I was heading in I realized the trim will not go up. There are 3 buttons and only the down button works, the other two have no response. Looking for some advice on where to look first. Bad Switch? Solinoid? I have not looked into it at all yet since it happened when I was calling it a night, just looking for some experiance on these units. Since it goes down fine, and does nothing on the way up is it safe to say its a switch, solinoid, or wire?

Thanks
Josh

If you get caught at the lake like I did you have to either open the fluid release valve or if it was like mine I had to undo a hose release the fluid pressure. Only do that in an emergency like you want to get your boat off the boat ramp and get home.

When my trim would not go up, that is one of those things that sounds bad but isn't, I took it in to the shop and and the mechanic told me there were shorts in the wiring that kept it in the down position.

Sorry not much help, but a start.

In an emergency, you would do better to use the two 9/16" wrenches that we all carry in our tool box & undo the trim rams @ the anchor pin & not pollute the water by dumping the trim fluid......;):)
