Anybody ever pinned a hub on a spun prop?

I've got a prop for my 25 hp with a spun hub. It's an older pin-drive style, not thru-hub exhaust. I've replaced it, but think I'll try pinning the old one and keeping it on hand as a spare. My idea is to drill 3 holes through the hub perpendicular to how the prop shaft would be, equally spaced. Tap them with a common thread (8-32?), and screw in brass machine screws coated with locktite, not quite protruding into the hole for the prop shaft. Last step would be to cut off the head and unused part of the brass screw flush with the outer surface of the hub.

Anyone tried something like this? or have other ideas? I can't imagine that it wouldn't work good enough to make it serviceable as a spare.

I thought about doing it, but I was advised not to, as it can damage your lower unit, but as a spare your idea could work ....

thx for the thoughts.

I could see that you wouldn't want to do this if it was a rubber hubbed prop... but the lower unit would still be protected by the drive (shear) pin on mine...

I'd think the shear strength of 3 brass screws would be strong enough (?!). The hub only slips intermitently now, but I could always use SS screws for pins... just be a bit harder to clean up nice and flush afterwards. For a spare, I could probably even leave the screw heads screwed down flush on the outside of the hub... wouldn't affect performance much I'd imagine.
