I ordered an Evinrude manual and a set of carb kits and they ended up costing an extra 110 percent by the time I paid UPS shipping and UPS brokerage fees.:(
anybody else get dinged like me?

Unfortunately, you have to factor that in whenever you order from companies south of the border. It sure eats up any savings you may have gotten by ordering down south. I always factor in an extra $20 when I buy from US companies. More if its a big ticket item. No offence to our host, but I always try to order from Canadian companies first and then start looking south.

Don't use UPS. They charge to much for brokerage. They are a great company in the US but in Canada, not so hot. My best experience with Trans-border shipping is plain old United States Parcel Service. They have never disappointed although they are slower.

Problem is most places don't give you the option of parcel post. However, you still get dinged by Canada Customs at the border and those fees make no sense at all. It's like they just pull amounts out of thin air and with no rhythm or reason. Sometimes they ding you and sometimes they don't. I've always had to pay if the item came from a company, but not always if it was a private sale like eBay.
