well i think the outboard took a dive.

ill turn on the eng. makes a clanking noise coming from the outdrive.
i took off the plug to look at the lube, well i found metal pieces in the lube& magnet.

history of boat. its a 2000 larson 20'6 lxi w/ a carb 305 & gs out drive.
the entire boat & motor has 8 hrs on it. was stored inside for 6 years & months. then it was put outside for two months w/ the plug on & rained on.

it was given to my wife & i. (free, nada & now costing me money)

i got it running & used it for three hrs straight. (it was a blast)
the eng. died out when we were pulling tubers & made a loud clank noise.
brought it home & it did have no fire. so i replaced the ignition module &
gapped at .22mm. cleaned out the plugs.

it will start for 1-3 seconds & makes a loud clanking noise coming from the outdrive & turns off. this is in neutral postion.
it seems like my old 66 impala & one or two bolts were loose in the flywheel.

what gives???? is it the outdrive??

some pics. it might help.

Re: help again:(

Pull the outdrive off and start the boat for a few seconds then post back. Let us know if the noise is gone or not.

metal chunks in the drive lube isn't a good thing.. what was done with the engine/drive after it was under water? anyone pull the drive? was the lube milky? sounds to me like its shot.. pull it off and fire up the engine and see if the noise goes away.. my guess is it will.. then you might want to open up the drive and see all the chunks of torn up gears in there..

Ayuh,.........

I'd say the Next Step is pulling the Drive,... Feeding water to the Motor,+ Light It.........
If the noise is Gone,...... You've Found the Problem............
