I just purchased a new boat a few weeks ago, and of course the second time i had it out i broke a prop!!!. The boat is a 1985 Cheeatah w/ mercruser 3.0l 4cyl. i went to my local boat store and they sold me a 15"x17pitch and i really think this is the prop for this boat. I had it out today and it really seems slower. I dont ski but we do tube. What is a good all around prop the gives me a little more topend. We had 3 adults in the boat today the max rpm i could get was about 3800 and about 28mph. please help!!

Re: wrong prop???

3800 rpm's sounds like a tuneup issue. When is the last time it had a full tuneup? Cap, rotor, points, plugs, etc?

I would have started with a 14x19, but I wouldn't spend a cent on props until the boat had a full tune up. Don't forget a new fuel filter as well.
