Hard to say but I guess $175 to $400... It might look like it's in excellent condition but could require alot to get it going. So u can base the price on that for starters...

i would not pay more than $200, as there is the 90% possibility the buyer is going to have to spend $150-200, to rebuild carb, points, coils, condeners, plug wire, and impeller. this would make it a reliable motor. as long as the lower unit clutch dog is still good.

Re: 1968 6hp johnson

I just bought a 1972 6 HP Evinrude for $325. It just had new points and plugs put in. I thought I paid a bit too much, but I took it out on the lake and it runs really well. I's rather have an old motor that runs well than a newer one that doesn't. I had a 1975 Eska 9.9 hp (Tecumseh engine) previously and it was garbage. I miss the HP, but it ran intermittently.

Re: 1968 6hp johnson

I recently purchased a 74' Johnson 6hp for $300. I have spent right at another $160 on plugs, gear oil, water pump impeller, points, condenser, carb kit, gas tank, hose, fittings, fuel pump, seafoam and repair manual. I drove 180 miles round trip to pick it up. I have spent hours and hours on it and here so far and the parts will be here tommorow. I still got a lot more work to do and who knows how much more I will spend. I think a "fair market price", for one running and rebuild to some extent would be in the $300-$400 dollar range. Of course when it comes down to it... It's whatever a feller is willing to pay for it... whatever the market will bear. ... Fishermanms

Read the above, New boater, if your prospective new motor is in "turnkey" condition, ie "put on the transom nd go".....300 is a fair price. You'll certainly get that much enjoyment out of it!

I perfer $100 motors that need work. That's where the enjoyment comes, but that's just me.

These motors sell for up to $450 CDN where I am. I just saw a beautiful late 70's 6 hp go for $375 CDN so $300 US is probably a good price - IMO.
