Evinrude 3hp Question

[Classic'55]

I have an Evinrude 3hp...Model 3012-09264...I did a rebuild on carb and it seems to run great...took it to the lake...mounted it to my canoe...started it up and the canoe does not move....there seems to be alot going on in the water....I can't tell if the prop is spinning but there are alot of bubbles and turbulents happening down there...Why wont the canoe move?

That engine has a drive, or shear pin. Check that.

Welcome to iboats !

I agree, check the drive pin. Remove the prop nut and prop, check the shear pin, replace pin if sheared.

You better hope it is the drive pin. The other possibility is stripped splines in the crankshaft. Caused by somebody leaving a 50 cent o-ring out when replacing a water pump. Result is catastrophic damage.

Thanks for the input.....I plan on looking into it tonite...hopefully it is just a shear pin and not the splines....

Thanks for the input once again....The Drive Pin is broke and I am looking for the replacement....From the model serial number listed here: 3012-09264 how can I tell which year the motor is...most say '52 - '54.... There are different parts manuals....

Same model number '52-54. But the serial number says it is a 1953

Doesn't really matter what the exact year is 1952-1954. They are the same motor even though Evinrude chose to put out a new parts manual each year. Either way, I have the parts manual for your motor in .pdf format. If you'd like a copy of the manual PM me your email address and I'll send it too you.
