I found a 1986 Bayliner Capri boat in a field in Mendota IL, hull was in perfect shape but the entire boat was dry rotted. I rebuilt the entire thing with some buddy's. The only major engine repairs I did outside of the basics was all the bellows, gimbal bearing and inner & outer rings. Low and behold the boat runs great! I have been using it for 2 seasons now, while I was reading some of the other postings I realized how fortunate I was. If just my wife and I are in the boat we can cruise around at about 35 if I am pulling the kids on the tube about 25. Just this past weekend something strange happened. I would take off at full throttle and once I plained out, I would lose power?? I would have to let off, slow down and take off again and it was fine?? Has anyone ever experienced this? If I left the throttle at 3/4 I could run forever. But once I would throttle up for a turn etc.. I would lose power. The only thing I did recently was replace the steel fuel lines with new rubber ones, due to a fuel leak right at the carb. I made sure all diameters were exactly the same. I can't tell if I am starving for fuel or something more major. "Anyone have any advice?"

For one thing, I know how the fuel line hooks up on a 125, and what you have done is illegal and dangerous.
First, you have to have Type A1 marine fuel hose, but worse, you have to have barbed (not pushon type barbs) hose fittings on the carb and fuel pump. Since you have banjo fittings, I would guess you slipped a hose over the cutoff tube, clamped it and called it good. You are just asking for a fire, so consider heavily about getting a new line.

On to your problem.
When was the last time you gave the engine a full tuneup. To run correctly, the Volvo OHC engines requier a good tuneup to work.
Also check out your timing belt for wear.
May also be your fuel system. Try this http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=167561

Don-

I had no idea on the fuel line issue, but I am fairly new to boating. I had fuel leaking and was worried about a fire, since I replaced the bad line I have not had a drop of fuel under the dog house. I will look into replacing the line with the marine line you mentioned. I have never had a "professional" tune-up to this boat. I bought the book and parts and went at it mysef.

I didn't know there was a filter at the carb, where is it? I also put an in-line (glass) filter on the main fuel line, I have never had a problem with that as well. Just so I could see if anything was coming from the tank to the engine. This boat did sit for years.

You don't have a filter at or in the carb.
Also, a glass (or clear plastic) filter is also illegal and dangerous.
