Yamaha 115 running for first time

Im going to try to run my motor for the first time today. Its a 1986 115hp model 115ETLJ. Now the guy i bought it from didnt have a key for it. All the controlls came with it and i can see how to hook up just about everything. My question is, is there a way for me to try to run this thing without a key?? Im not really sure where the battery is supposed to hook up. From the controlls there is a plug that has 10 pins i see where that connects and i see where the throttle and shift cables connect. On the starter i see an empty screw and im guessing that that is where one of the cables from the battery would connect. Any help you guys can give me would be greatly apreciated! Thanks!!

Yamaha puts a key number on the side of their ignition switches...it's located on the flat spot where the nut screws on to hold the switch in the dash..take that number to your local Yammie dealer and they should be able to get you a key

My wifes toyota key goes in and turns it. It feels like it should it even springs back from the start possition when you let it go. Do you think that it will work for now? It feels right like a ignitoin key should when you turn it. You know how it springs back from the start possition and all. I think that will work for now. Ill get that key number though that you said. I just have to get the battery hooked up now somewhere but thats my other thread in the yamaha room. Thanks zzzz i didnt know that about the number i can get them to mail me a key with that number i just called them. Thanks again ZZZ

if you want to view parts diagrams you can go to yamaha-motor.com...then click on marine...then parts and service then view parts catalog

I run some of my yamaha controls with an old 1976 Mercedes key .... or the chinese quadbike keys also works .....
