I have a '93 Evinrude 9.9 that looses power to one cylinder as soon as it warms up. Two years ago, I replaced the ignition module and the problem was resolved. Now ithe problem's returned. I tried the ignition module again and its no good. I tried a new coil to no avail.

Any ideas what to consider next, or can you point me to service in the Pittsburgh, PA area?

Did you change plugs? Check compression before and after to compare. Test plug wires. Just thinking while typing.

I haven't tried any other testing. I have changed plugs several times as well. They are always very oilly, but I expect that's from not firing.

Is one cylinder dead after warming or not up to snuff? Did you pull the wire to check for change and was there any?

I tried pulling each wire, but could not get it to start. One cylinder at least fired and tried to start, but all was dead on the other.

Have you worked on many outboards or car engines for that matter?

if your not getting spark on that cyl and you've tried a new/good coil on that one that burnt..then its prob you stator/points or power pack...need to test them also

Re: Evinrude 9.9

Reload,

Not so much on outboards, I did successfully rebuild an Evinrude in the '70s. Cars, I've done several rebuilds and once dropped a 390 Automatic in a '61 Ford 4x4, so I'd say I at least knew my way around at one time. I also raced motocross, which by definition makes you somewhat of a two cycle gearhead.

No, I don't have any applicable experience here, nor all the tools for testing, etc. But I believe I can follow any meaningful suggestions.

Unfortuneately, your question doesn't help with mine. Ya got any useful advice, which is why I came here?

I'm sorry if I ruffled your feathers, I was just trying to get an idea of how tech to be.

I like that idea. I did change out the kill switch a couple years ago, possibly when this problem started. I'll check that out.

Thanks,

Mikesea,

At the risk of being premature, (I didn't get on the lake) this was it. Ran fine for a half hour in the driveway. I now have a disconnect should I need it in the future as well as a new kill switch. Thanks a bunch for the assist.
