Engine will not turn off

As the title says engine will not turn off with the igntion switch. I have had a old power pack installed today and a used throttle assembly and just matched the wires up. Is there any thing I can do with out replacing the switch? Any help is appreciated.

boss you have a bad ground check all of your grounds before you replace anything. also get a volt meter and check your selinoid when key comes on you should have 12v come on and then when key goes off should loose 12v so check that and then check all grounds if you dont loose 12 v then it is your switch if you loose 12v then it is a bad ground

A good place to start is to tell us what model engine you have. If you have a ADI ign and hit it with 12 volts you have just made the $200 error

The motor is a 1976 or 78 mercury 402.

A 402 is ADI ign, so to kill the engine it must be grounded off
