Where do I put an in hull Transducer

I have a 94 bayliner capri 1750 with a 3.0 mercruiser and am in the process of putting in a depthfinder. I got the guage all hooked up and all I need to do is glue in the in-hull transducer. I am going to take the easy route and just sand down a spot and glue it in with epoxy as opposed to potting it. I am just having a hard time figuring out where to put the damn thing. The directions that came with it might as well be in freakin chinese. Can anyone give me a specific location for the damn transducer to be glued. They tell me all the places where not to put it, but don't tell me where it can go. Diagrams, specific location anything?????? Thanks...PS I'm kind new to this site and it lloks like I may have put this in the wrong section..sorry

my understanding is you cant put it where there is wood in the hull. It has to be water to fiberglass to transducer. I've also heard it's a good idea to take the boat out flood the bilge with water and move it around under water until you find the best spot. Mark it, pull the boat dry thoroughly and install it on the mark.

I guess I was looking for a way to get it done without taking it out in the water. The nearest lake is 3 hours away and so when I am there I never wanna mess with the boat I just wanna play in it. I guess that is the only option for now.. Thanks FL_Richard....

I've not done it so I can't say for sure if it works.I've been told that you can place transducer in zip-lock baggy filled with water and lay baggy in spot that your considering you can check operation.
For sounder to receive a clear image there can not be ANY air between transducer & water.I would recommend once you have decided on location and go to install mix up epoxy "wet" so you can make sure there are no air bubbles.You only get one chance,thats the scary thing about the epoxy,in hull install.
I also have heard that spot on hull needs to be flat.You may have to "build up" a spot to level before installing trans.

I did this to mine also, and I just looked for a place that I knew would be the thinest part of the hull and would still be in the water even on plane. It is located approximately 5 inches starboard of the keel and about 5-6 inches from the transom. I used a small bead of 5200 to get it set in place then put silicone the rest of the way around it after I got around to taking it out and testing if the position would work. First time I took it out I had to dump a few buckets of water in the bilge to get it to start reading, after I added the silicone it works Most of the time, which was the case even with the ducer on the transom always in the water. Now I don't have to worry about knocking it around or off in the water or on the trailer, and no wires running down the transom. Anyways hope this helps.

To get the transducer to work at its full potential you need to take it to the water. Place the transducer in a bag with water zip tie the top of it so no water gets out. Don't fill you bilge with water. The bag with water will do just fine. With I/O's it's alot harder to do this. Find a location thats accessable, put the boat on plane and/or cruising speed to see if location will work to your needs repeat as needed. good luck
