Re: Paint went well

I would say all in all the rolled only is smoother. It was just more difficult to get the deck to paint as well because of all the nooks and crannies. With the deck I started in the stern and went back and forth doing about 2' of each side then moved to the dash and finally to the bow deck trying to keep moving so the paint would not dry and show where a new patch started. I am very satisfied with both, but If I knew what I know now, I would have just rolled the hull color as well. When I get a chance I am going to document my project from start to finish.

I understand you well, with just a little experience painting a boat and getting great result's with some of the marine paint's avabile is easy. I am looking forward to seeing your project, the boat look's great nice color scheme..

what I can see looks great!Would love to see complete project.I'm considering painting a fiberglass boat over original gelcoat.
Anyone know of a site that shows step x step process?
Also, how durable are the paints available? What I don't want to do is spend the time and money to paint and have to worry everytime I bump a dock that the paint will rub off.

Problably a dumb question, what roller did you use that turned out so well? Was it mohair or foam?

4" foam roller, does not break up in a two part urethane paint like Perfection, however i would i cannot recomend strictly rolling BrightSide's.

Im currently right in the middle of doing one and it does not flatten or level the same, lot's of bubble's and has to rerolled a few time's before it become's tacky, a bit nerve racking...:D

So if I remember correctly, Perfection should be rolled only, and Brightside works better rolled/tipped?

I'm still prepping my hull for Perfection. One more coat of Epoxy Primecoat and the topcoat begins.

Experiment play with it and you should get a far better finish with perfection by rolling only and using that roller. I know it's not by the book, but the fisish can be oustanding uisng perfection. Bright Sides just produces a lot of bubbles that donot level by them selfs when you roll only, but when it start's setting if you do a quick roll they flatten out and it dry's nicely, but i dont recomend it if your not familar to painting.

Re: Paint went well

I used epifanes 2 part polyurethane. Worked well both ways, but just rolling was less stressful. I used 4" and 6" foam rollers like the left hand one.
