Re: palimino

If you need step by step instructions you need a service manual. If you don't want to buy one, check your local library. Even if they don't have one for your exact engine, the process is fairly similar on most engines. The process requires that you drop the lower unit. The water pump sits on top of the lower unit and is driven by the drive shaft. You remove the screws that secure the impeller housing. Lift it off the shaft. Slide the impeller off the shaft and don't loose the drive key. Clean things up and install the new one using instructions in the kit.

Re: palimino

Nothing has mentioned anything about the oil in the lower unit while replacing th impeller, is that the gear lube? Since the lower unit will be dropped during installation of the impeller should the gar oil be changed at that time, and what is best way to do that.

Re: palimino

In this case, oil and water do not mix.

If one chooses to service the oil in the lower unit at this time, go right ahead.

Although it is usually easier to change oil while the lower unit is in place, and not while removed for IMPELLER service.

Re: palimino

Thanks for your help. I was able to check out a manual at the libary and change the pump. I did drain the oil and replaced it.
