control arm travels 4 inches before increasing thrust and contiunes to travel until approx. 125 degrees is this normal? i thought that at 90 degrees you should be at max thrust...if so whats the fix? this is the second control box i have put on..as i thought the original problem was cable stretching.

That's pertin'ear what mine does.

Without going outside and confirming it............

Neutral is at noon

engaged and starting to go maybe 9:30-10:00

Full throttle maybe 7:00 or 8:00

I'd probably call it a throttle lever or something though.

Some older boxes were bad as far a throttle traval but some engines had a nylon spacer on the cable anchors around the barrel part and into a hole to take up some slack, does your cable barrel slide into a hole or does a pin go thru it?

Bob,
If there isn't a spacer there, is it ok to put one on?

barrel slides in hole and its annoying seriously ya damn near break a finger when ya pullin up a skier havin to slam it so far down ive thought about cockin the control box to compensate but that would be dorky and id rather get the arm working better

If you don't have a spacer I think merc still sells them but I don't see any reason you couldn't make one

Maybe what you need is a foot throttle.

Well, seems to me thats the way IT IS SUPPOSED TO WORK..(have one sitting just outside the window)..most throttle will be after the 10 o'clock position, up to 7..

mine was full throttle at 9 oclock, after adjusting cables to bring idle down to specs, it was at about 10 30. adjusting how your cables operate, will change the controller operation

Re: '74 115 thunderbolt

See if the spacer (actually I would call it more of a clip)..has fallen down into the cowling when the cables were maybe removed before. It holds the barrel nuts secure. It will help some, but its the nature of the box, and the way Mercs work
