i have a 14 sears alum. boat with a 12hp scotts outboard. the cav plate sits about 1 1/2 to 2 inches below the bottom of hull and i want to raise it for better performance. does any one know of a low price jack plate or a different option to raise the motor. the one i find online are pretty costly.
thanks

Piece of wood underneath transom clamp. Just make sure the thumbscrews have plenty of bite though.
Although, being a 14 foot alum, with a 12 horse, I don't think you are planning on racing performance bass boats. You probably wouldn't even notice a difference. The big bass boat guys add a 600 dollar jackplate, but only gain 3 or 4 mph. At 75 miles an hour to start with, that is 4 to 5% increase. Or adding 1/20th to 1/25th of your current speed. If your current top speed is 10 mph, you are only gonna get about 10.5 mph. Not enough to screw with. The exact right pitch prop would be a better bang for your buck. Smaller motors tend to be a bit long anyway. I would just leave as is, and go fishing.
