Ok, so I get this 99 caravell with a 4.3 volvo penta engine in it. There is only 44 hours on this boat and it had been siting for 5 years. I first started it for only 5-6 seconds and noticed water coming out everywhere. There was one freeze plug on each side of the motor blown out. Replaced and fired it up again, then notice water coming out of the head on the left side. removed exhaust manifold and notice the head was severly cracked. replaced head and changed oil 3 times to remove all milky oil. Fired it up again, (with ears for the water) noticed water in oil again. Only ran it for about 2 min. Here's what I don't get though, I just let the water run and did not start the engine, The crankcase completely filled up. There is no water on the pistons, so assuming that I think the exhaust manifolds should be good(I think). I'm guessing it is either the intake manifold or cracked block. What should be my next steps.

:(

i dunno man, hope i'm wrong, but i think yer hosed. seems like yer block shows signs of havein an internal crack into the crackcase.....freeze damage to the max with the head gone too. better check the manifolds too prior to reusein them......might as well start lookin for a long block. to bad about only 44 hrs.

Well that's kind of what I thought. I guess I pull the exhaust and intake manifolds off and get them tested. then order a new block and start moving everything over. Ahhh, then comes the outdrive. I think it's all working except the rubber hose(not sure of it's name) has a crack in it.

since you just bought a new head, all you need now is a short block..
